Be True, Be You

Core'dinations Cardstock is such a great weight to use with different mediums!  Today I am sharing a tutorial for the simple and pretty multi-media layout I made with lots of Tim Holtz Kraft-Core Nostalgic Collection.

Core'dinations Supplies:

Other Supplies:
The Crafter's Workshop Mini Cloud & Poppies Stencils
Ranger Tim Holtz Adirondack Snow Cap Mixative
Dick Blick Modeling Paste

To create this 12x12 layout:
1)  Sand & dust 1/2" border around the 12x12 Kraft-Core No. 15 background.
2)  Cut, sand (especially the edges)& dust:
     a) Two 10" x 2" and one 10" x 1.5" pieces of Kraft Core No. 6.
     b) One 10" x 2" and one 10" x 1.5" pieces of Kraft Core No. 2.

3) Flip to the backside one of the 10" x 2" pieces of No. 6 cut in Step 2.  Using a cloud stencil, outline the clouds using a score tool.***  Sand and dust the clouds embossed on the front side.

****Tip: When embossing cardstock using a stencil and score tool, use a rubber mat underneath the stencil.  This allows you to get a deep scored image without ripping the cardstock.

4) Using a paint brush, paint in the clouds with a white wet medium.  I used Ranger's Snow Cap Mixative because I liked that looked like different densities in the clouds.

5) To create the "be true" part of the title, use a stencil with acrylic modeling paste to the left side of the 2nd piece of 10" x 2" piece of No. 6.  Apply evenly with a popsicle stick.  When removing stencil, be sure to lift the stencil up straight so you don't smudge the title work.

6) "To you" is added to the 10" x 1.5" piece of No. 6 after the cardstock has been adhered to the background using the same technique and placement in Step 5.

7) Alternating the colors, add the cut & embellished pieces of cardstock to the background in a slightly angled manner.

8) Mat three wallet-size photos with Kraft-Core No. 15.  Making sure to sand and dust the edges before adhereing the photos.

8) Finish off by adding lots of Darice Sequins with a dollop of Liquid Pearl in the middle.

Multi-media layouts do not need to be complicated.  Just by using a couple of wet mediums to Core'dinations Cardstock, you can create fun titlework and painted embellishments! ~Kate

Camp Games

Today I am sharing my "Camp Games" Layout. It is on Core'dinations Blog today, too!  Core'dinations Tim Holtz & Ranger Distressed Collection was all the cardstock needed to create an earth-toned camp layout!

I used some basic techniques to give this layout dimension and show off the color-core.  The Chipped Sapphire was embossed, sanded and dusted to make the giant blue banner in the background.

The simple journaling reads "Jeff made some serious ladders for ladder ball @ camp."

The Vintage Photo Cardstock was crimped, sanded and dusted to make the photo mat.

I scored, sanded and dusted the two ends of the banner made with the Dried Apricot Cardstock.  This gave it a bit of texture that was needed for a finished look.

Tip:  When making banners, you do not need to have a die cut. Just gently fold the cardstock in half (do not fold so much that there is a crease) and snip from the end into the center at an angle.

Summer Fun This Way...

Sanding is key when using Core'dinations ColorCore Cardstock! Sanding isn't just about letting the ColorCore show, it is about showing off the ColorCore to add dimension and design.

The obvious areas I sanded with my Sand It Gadget were my embossed yellow flowers and splashes at the top of my layout.

The not-so-obvious areas I sanded were the arrows and waves.  Sanding these elements helped give a 3-D effect without adding height.

After sanding your Core'dinations ColorCore Cardstock, don't forget to dust with your Dust Buddy!  It really does clean up the dust and keep the colors true.

SHS 2011

Lots of graduations this weekend in Maine, so it is only fitting to share this graduation layout that sports school colors from Core'dinations Vintage Collection.  It is one of my favorite collections!

I did lots and lots of sanding with my Sand It Gadget.  I wanted the color core to really pop on the edges of the mats, along with where I embossed and scored.  It allowed me to add dimension without having to add more layers.

You can see how awesome the Core'dinations Color Core looks in this up close photo!

Seth is ONE!

A happy toddler is one of my most favorite things in the world. They are smiley, they are curious, they are learning and they are always in motion.  My grandson, Seth, is the epitome of a happy toddler and I think the "I am one!" photos in today's layout show just what a happy boy he is.

I wanted to create a very "boy" layout with the photos of my Grandson so I grabbed my stock of Core'dinations Chocolate Box Cardstock.  I embossed, debossed, and die cut my way through the Chocolate Box on this layout!  Each piece of Chocolate Box was sanded to show the great core colors I chose to compliment Seth's plaid shirt.

I used Spellbinder's Sprightly Sprockets Dies to create all the fun gears on this page.   Just loving how once I sanded down gears they looked aged with all that red showing though the Chocolate Box.  I added a bit of Ranger Distress Crackle Paint to them make them pop just a bit more.

Beautiful

TGIF!  Today I am sharing a layout I made for Core'dinations. It boasts several different techniques to use on the awesome color core cardstock. You can find Core'dinations Technique Videos here.

This beautiful girl is forever letting me take her photo. On this particular day Lily came outside ready to shop...in a very awesome outfit with a pop of red lipstick.  She looked so fresh I just had to grab the camera. The colors of Core'dinations Cardstock I chose were simply to compliment Lily's blue eyes and smashing red lips.

Besides basic embossing and sanding of cardstock, I crimped the paper with my Fiskars Crimper to create the scalloped border.

In both the adjective flags above and the titlework below I ran my Core'dinations Cardstock thru my Dymo to create embossed words.  Sand them down and dust them off to really make them pop!

One of my favorite techniques to use when creating with Core'dinations Cardstock is distressing it.  I think it is listed as "antique it" in the videos. Just crinkle, sand and dust your cardstock for a fun, aged look.

I hope you enjoyed my layout today. Have a great weekend!

With My Peeps

Believe it or not, I built this layout around the bunnies.  I couldn't help but notice that the pastel colors in the Core Couture Glitter Collection looked like Easter Peeps.  You know the ones I am talking about?  The fluffy marshmellow bunnies that stick their head out of many an Easter Basket.

I created the peep scene by cutting green, yellow, pink and blue bunnies out of Core Couture Glitter  with my Silhoutte.  I crimped their ears a bit to give them dimension.

The green grass was cut out of a 12" strip of the green in the Light Graphic 45 Collection, matching the background green cardstock.  I just randomly snipped the top 1"(or so) of the strip and sanded afterwards.  Sanding after I snipped made the individual blades of "grass" stand out more.  Don't forget to use your Dust Buddy after sanding to give it that finished look!

Go Green With Envy!

When you hear the saying "go green" I am sure you don't think of creating a monochromatic layout using only cardstock, but I sure did! I went green with Envy Core'dinations Cardstock.  By using techniques such as embossing, crinkling, sanding and a little bit of paint, I was able to add interest and dimension to my layout without adding another color.

I chose Envy as my monochromatic color because it was the perfect match to the background in my picture of Lily and her friends. I cut and snipped the Envy cardstock in random sizes. Then I embossed & crinkled & sanded the cardstock pieces to give a patterned paper appearance.

I chose a large crinkled piece my cardstock in which to paint my sentiment.  I love how the plain white craft paint just pops on this green!

Don't be afraid to "go green" on your next layout. Core'dinations Cardstock comes in every green imaginable, so I know there is one just perfect for you!  ~Kate

Snowshoe Sunday

Tis the season for snow!  Here in Maine we have already seen 12 inches of the fluffy white stuff. While I am not a big winter person, over the last two years I have formed a new love of snowshoeing.

Last winter Scott and I tried to get into the winter wonderland on Sundays.  Every now and then Lily would go with us.

I did lots of sanding with the Sand It Gadget in this layout to make it pop.

I cut the snowflakes out of Core'dinations Snowflake using my Silhoutte, painted the die cut with some glue and added some fine glitter.

Christmas Cuteness

Nothing is cuter than a baby at Christmas time!  My grandson's are no exception to that thought.  This year I can not wait to get some fun pictures of Seth at his first Christmas.  With that in mind, I am sharing a layout of Chase's first Christmas.  Don't you just want to pinch those cheeks?

This layout is chock-full of Core'dinations Tim Holtz Kraft-Core Shattered Collection.  I tore it, I sanded it, I die-cut it,  I inked it, and I even used the kraft-core back side of it.  This collection is so versatile and fun!

Wishing you lots of Christmas cuteness this year!

TGIF!   Keeping it simple for you today with a layout of my beautiful daughter, Lily, using the gorgeous papers from Quick Quotes Treasure Chest Collection.

The purple, grey and black color combination in the Treasure Chest Collection is so unique. It is perfect for both masculine and feminine projects.  For my layout I went with a clean design and feminine feel using all of the papers from Treasure Chest.

The sentiment I used on my layout matches this line splendidly. It is from the Quick Quotes Sentiments Bundle.  The colors and sentiment are the perfect embellishment for my layout.  Patsy definitely has a way with words!  You can see it up close in my picture below.

A City Girl @ Heart

I am so excited to share this fun layout with you.  It isn't often that I share a layout that tells a bit about me that many people don't know.  We live in a small town of about 2,000 people. While we are so lucky to be surrounded by the ocean, lakes and mountains, I do miss living in a city.

Core'dinations  challenged us Design Team members to use a chalking technique on a project.  I have seen all the projects everyone did and they are fab! So many fantastic and original approaches to the chalkboard trend.  Mine was shared on the Core'dinations Blog the other day, so today I am sharing mine with you.

I started this layout by sanding down Nightfall Core'dinations Cardstock.  The effect looks like a night sky.  So cool!  To create my city buildings, I used a stencil by Crafter's Companion with some Quick Quotes Chalking Ink.  I simply dabbed the ink right over the stencil.  After it sat for a minute, I smeared the chalked image with my finger to make it look a bit smudged.

Journaling in white pen was my last touch for the chalking theme.  It really pops on the Nightfall!

Back To Basics With Quick Quotes

There is really nothing basic about the Back To Basics Collection from Quick Quotes!  This collection is normally only available at Private Reserve, but it is now available for a limited time.

Kate here! Today I am sharing two very different projects using Back To Basics.  The video in my post today showcases this collection and gives you an up close view of each project.

My first project is an 8"x10" framed layout.  All the papers in this layout are from Back To Basics.  I also used some the Birds Bag O' Chips.  These chipboard birds have been colored with Quick Quotes Chalking Ink and then embossed and spritzed with Radiant Rain Shimmering Mist.  The sentiment is from the Quick Quotes Sentiments Bundle.

Next up is a simple card I made using the left over Back To Basics papers from my layout.  I added another sentiment from the Sentiments Bundles. So many great sentiments in this Bundle!

I share the Back To Basic papers and my projects in detail on my video.

I hope you have enjoyed my video and projects!

The Blues Brothers

If you follow the Core'dinations Blog, you will have noticed that they are sharing some Halloween projects this week.  Halloween is one of my favorite times of year!  The Halloween layout I am sharing today shows a fun way to use Core’dinations Kraft-Core Seasonal Impressions as a fantastic background.

To make the words POP on the background, I not-so-gently sanded all the words on the Halloween Seasonal Impressions Cardstock and then added some chalk.  I really wanted the Kraft-Core to absorb the color in the orange and blue Chalking Inks so giving it a good sanding is the key.

The title work was super easy!  I cut the title out of a 4.25″ x 5.5″ piece of Black Magic with my Cricut and then sanded it like crazy so the blue background would play on the title.

Next time you are creating a seasonal layout grab some of the Kraft-Core Seasonal Impressions!

Happy With Quick Quotes

Happy Monday!  Today I am sharing a happy layout chalking technique video using Quick Quotes September Club Q Page Layout Kit and Chalking Inks. Last weekend my family took a day trip to a lovely island in Maine, Peaks Island.  We took lots of pictures. I was happy to find these pics my hubby took of my daughter and niece.  They always so happy to hang out and have fun together.  I was happy to see how perfectly these photos went with this month's Club Q Page Layout Kit.

I used Chalking Ink in Tahiti to give the "Happy" chipboard and chipboard flowers some bright, happy color contrast. I also used Chalking Ink in Coconut White, a piece of smooth black cardstock and the remnant of the flowers included in the Club Q Kit to create the fun chalkboard-like border.  Chalkboard effects are all the rage right now and Quick Quotes Chalking Ink makes this effect super easy!  Check out how easy in my video below.

Wishing you a happy day!

Core'dinations & Lawn Fawn Blog Hop

This week Core'dinations has partnered with Lawn Fawn to bring you some AWE-some projects by both design teams.  I am so excited by this pairing! Today my projects are up on the Core'dinations Blog.  I used Lawn Fawn's "Many Thanks" sentiment stamps and "Quinn's ABCs" to stamp the titlework of my layout on the smooth side of  Core'dinations Cardstock.

To create the fun scalloped bottom, I debossed my Core'dinations Cardstock using a contrasting ink on my embossing folder. So, for the purple cardstock, I used a blue ink and for the blue cardstock, I used a purple ink. Then I punched out lots of circles, cut them in half and alternated the colors in five layers

Layout supplies:
Coredinations Cardstock: Distress Collection
Coredinations Cardstock: Neutrals Collection
Lawn Fawn: Many Thanks
Lawn Fawn: Quinn's ABCs

I used "Many Thanks" for my card sentiment, too. Again, stamping the sentiment on the smooth side of my Snowflake Core'dinations Cardstock.
