Like An...Artist

Happy Wednesday!  Core'dinations Cardstock makes it so easy to create a beautiful monochromatic layout! So many of the paper lines are matching and complimentary.  Core'dinations challenged us DT Members to create a monochromatic project. On Core'dinations Blog today you will see our take on this challenge.

The pictures of my daughter, Lily, in the layout I am sharing today were just calling for me to use lots of blue, so that is what I did.  

Since I was going with a pretty simple design for my layout, I wanted to build it around the photos.  Once I decided on the Navy Core'dinations Cardstock and where the photos would be placed I got busy creating a textured banner out Tranquil and Tidal Wave Core'dinations Cardstock.  I embossed the cardstock first, then die cut them using a Spellbinders banner die.  Happy with the embossed banners, I distressed them a bit with the Sandit Gadget and sewed it on my layout with my new sewing machine. 

Initially I thought that I would leave the background cardstock untouch, then I realized I needed a place for journaling.  This was simply fixed by scoring the back of my Navy Core'dinations Cardstock with four lines right next to the banner and under the vertical photo.  I sanded the score marks to make them stand out just a bit. The journaling is in silver pen.  

The finishing touches are the dress forms. These were so fun to make!  I die cut two dress forms from a 6" x 6" piece of Glitter Cardstock in Ball Gown and made the skirts out of some of the scraps from the banner.  I crimped the scraps with a Fiskars Crimper.  The crimped strips where then layered on the dress forms and trimmed to give shape. If you look closely, you will see that I created different skirts on each dress form with the same supplies.

I definitely enjoyed creating this monochromatic layout and am sure there are more in my Core'dinations future!

Last week I found this super cute photo of Lily from several years ago.

It was from a cold, winter day on a local sledding hill. 

I am sure I have scrapped the photo in the past, but I was inspired to create

with it again using Quick Quotes Stowaway collection. 

The blues of Quick Quotes Stowaway Collection are just beautiful.
They are they perfect collection of colors for the sweet winter photo.
I used Quick Quotes Stowaway 6x6 Paper Pad to create all of my embellishments and photomat layers

I created some fun chipboard-like hearts to embellish my layout and match the hearts on Lily's Hat.
In the video below I share how I used Quick Quotes Stowaway 6x6 Paper Pad and Blue Hawaiian Powder Puff Chalking Ink to create chipboard-like embellishments.  It is so easy! 

To create the shaped arrows in the upper right corner cluster,
I used Kiwi Lane's Cascade Trails (2A) Template.

The Quick Quotes 6x6 paper pads really do have all you need to create layers, sentiments and embellishments on any layout!  Don't you agree?

Life Is A Journey with Quick Quotes

Today we are buried under two feet of snow and it keeps on coming! It sure is pretty, but I am definitely happy to be stuck at home so I can share my first Quick Quotes video with you.

I used Quick Quotes' new Stowaway Collection to create a sweet layout that needed just a bit more color and texture.  In my video I share with you one of my favorite ways to add texture and color in a quick, effective, and fun way using a piece of solid paper from the Stowaway 6x6 paper pad and PowderPuff Chalking Ink!

This sweet layout will look lovely hanging on the wall or a nice addition to a family scrapbook.

Journaling Cards

I have this wonderful stash of journaling cards in all shapes and sizes.  Some of them are years old. Some of them I have no idea who manufactured them.  When I am done with a kit or collection I tuck away the extra journaling cards.  I just can't see tossing them away, so when I saw Moxie Fab World's Journaling Card Challenge I pulled out my wonderful stash. 

"Have Love" is a play on the journaling tag.  That sweet, retro car image with the hearts trailing behind just invited the "have love will travel" quote.

Curiosity

Paper and glue make me so happy. Seriously happy.

A form of stress relief and creativity in my otherwise organized, heavily scheduled world.

I relish getting packages of scrappy goodness in the mail.  

Pretty sure I told Scott to look for three packages for me this week. 

I find that exciting enough to make me giddy. 

In this month's package from Scrappy Chics Kit Club, I got the add-on kit 

which was chock-full of Authentique's Curiosity line.  It is definitely a 

school themed line, but I bucked the system a bit.  

The first layout I am sharing is definitely my favorite.

Chase is definitely a curious fellow!  He is always into something, generally when we aren't looking.

I loved that Authentique adds quotes on the strips at the bottom of their papers.

I added the one from the Curiosity line to the top of the layout.  Perfect! 

Scott's Mom became a proud Great-Grandma twice within a month.

You can see how proud she is to be holding the two cousins.  

The love stamp is by Glitz Design. It can be found in the Scrappy Chics' Add-On Kit this month. 

It is hard to tell from the photo, but I cut apart the Studious paper and laminated 

the alphabets to make flash cards.  The altered library card holder is meant 

to be storage for the laminated flash cards.  So simple!

So Lucky To Have You!

"So Lucky to Have You" is my first design team layout for Kite Tails Designs.

It went live on the Kite Tails Designs Blog yesterday with step by step 

instructions on how to create this simply sweet layout.  

Full of "Lucky O'" papers that match the photo of Kass & Chase just perfectly.

I love the plaid in this paper line!
