...do you want to hold the string?
That is what my Dad used to tell us all the time when were
curious children asking him where he was going when he left the house.
I wanted to journal this vivid childhood memory.
Kite Tails Designs "Blue Sky Day" paper & embellishment line
had what I needed to create a picture free 8 1/2" x 11" layout that
told the story of this childhood memory.
I hand cut the clouds and kites. The clouds were given a 3-D effect by
layering them with ScrapDots by Helmar. The tips of the kites are curled
up just a bit to give the effect of movement without adding height.
The yellow cord from "Blue Sky Day" was perfect for the kite strings.
The green grass was created by overlapping 8" x 1 1/2" strips of at slightly
different heights and them fringing them with my scissors.
While picture-free layouts are not my norm, I am quite happy with how this one tells my story.

Great story, Kate. I love how you were able to preserve this memory to pass down within your scrapbook albums, even without a photo. Love the bright childhood colors that you used here and love to see your handwritten journaling.
LOVE this, Katie! These are memories that deserve to be shared and celebrated! What a wonderful layout - the colors, the design and the small details that you have included - all terrific!
Katie, I love this. When I heard Stacy Julian speak last week at the CTMH Convention, she suggested we leave the camera behind sometimes in order to tell the focus on the story. I really love what you've done!
This is a sweet page!
Fabulous page, Katie! The primary colors and simple design go so well with your childhood memory. Wonderful that the story is relayed with no photos at all.
